USTR Modifies Section 301 Tariffs, Imposes Increased Duty on $200 Billion of Chinese Goods

On July 10, 2018, US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer advised that President Trump has modified the Section 301 order to include an additional 10 percent duty on $200 billion of Chinese imports, in addition to maintaining the original lists of 818 and 284 articles. The notice and list contain an additional 6,031 tariff subheadings. 

As with prior Section 301 tariffs, the USTR will proceed with a transparent and comprehensive public notice and comment period prior to implementation:

  • July 27, 2018 - due date for filing request to appear and testify at a public hearing 
  • August 17, 2018 - due date for submission of written comments
  • August 20-23, 2018 - the Committee will convene the public hearing
  • August 30, 2018 - due date for post-hearing rebuttal comments 

According to the Office of the United States Trade Representative, “The Section 301 Committee will convene a public hearing in the main hearing room of the U.S. International Trade Commission, 500 E Street SW, Washington DC, 20436, beginning at 9:30 am on August 20, 2018. You must submit requests to appear at the hearing by July 27, 2018.”
