Schedule B Search Tool

Classifying your product just got a whole lot easier! There is now a new and smarter Schedule B Search Engine available on the Census website. This brand new search engine incorporates enhanced technology to make product classification as fast and painless as possible.

A new search tool was designed to take the complexity out of exporters classifying their products. It is advantageous for both exporters and Census. Exporters now have a smarter, more perceptive way to accurately classifying their product and Census will attain a more accurate picture of trade statistics.

Because today’s market has more complex and diversified products available than ever before it was sometimes difficult to accurately classify products using the older keyword based search engine. The new search engine, however, can understand and interpret common commercial product information while acting intelligently with the user to cut down on the amount of time it takes to classify a product. Census also expects the new search engine to provide more accurate and consistent results to improve the quality of trade statistics.

The old keyword based search engine will only be available until April 30, 2010. After this date 10-digit Schedule B numbers can still be validated on the Census website at but only the new search engine is to be used for product and keyword searches.

It is the U.S. Principal Party in Interest’s (USPPI) responsibility to provide the Schedule B or Harmonized Code classification when preparing their shipment for export. An accurate classification is required by the Census Bureau for the Electronic Export Information (EEI). Failure to provide an accurate classification may result in fines and penalties up to $10,000 per offense.
