Updated Importer ID Effective After Government Furlough

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will add to its security enforcement by requiring additional information on importers and final consignees.

Updated Importer ID Effective After Government Furlough.

The data will be submitted via an updated importer identity form which, in addition to other data, will provide CBP with personal information about company owners and officers as well as EIN numbers for related business.

With this additional data, CBP will be able to make more informative risk assessments, thereby streamlining the import process. Current importers with a valid CBP Form 5106 already on file will not have to resubmit unless they have one of the qualifying events (change of name, address, etc.)
